The Service Center Check-ups & Tune-ups
|
Temperature, humidity, and time all affect how your guitar plays and sounds. Because
you can't control all of these elements all of the time, your instrument suffers the
consequences in tone and playability.
A regimen of maintenance and service can help.
|
Routine Maintenance
Routine maintenance for your guitar or bass should include:
restrings every 2 weeks to 2 months depending on string type
fingerboard cleaning and oiling with every string change
neck adjustment at every season change
tremolo adjustments
Setup Work
In addition to regular maintenance, your guitar will occasionally require
service, usually referred to as "setup work." Commonly, setups
can include:
fret levels (sometimes called a fret mill)
action adjustments
neck adjustments
resetting intonation

We recommend servicing your guitar or bass every one to two years.
If your guitar has never been setup, it probably needs to be. In fact, even brand
new instruments can benefit from action work. Most of the time, instruments coming
directly from the factory are setup generically, and for some players that is all
they require. Most instruments, however, can be made to play better. (As an added
service to our retail customers, we perform setup on every new instrument we sell.)
If you think your instrument might not be performing to its highest level, have our
service department, or your local luthier, take a look at it. It may just require
some routine service.
